Professional Development Resources

Thank you for volunteering your time and providing such valuable educational experiences for our students. As you know, your commitment is extremely important to the success of our students as they continue to learn in the clinical setting. We greatly appreciate your eagerness to support our students and would like to introduce you to a few benefits available through PCOM's Center for Teaching Support and Professional Development (TSPD).

  • Clinical Educators Faculty Development Module:
    Free to PCOM clinical instructors and preceptors, this on-demand training includes more than 38 hours of educational content. Topics include orienting students to clinical practice, teaching and innovation, critical thinking and research, assessment, clinical skills, osteopathic principles and practice, and supporting learner needs.   • PCOM Annual Clinical Educators' Virtual Conference:
    Free to PCOM clinical instructors and preceptors, this annual live webinar program provides an opportunity for preceptors to learn and brainstorm strategies to engage students in the clinical setting. This program is typically offered in September with details available at the Knowledge Direct Course Catalog.

  • Online Continuing Education (CE) and Continuing Medical Education (CME) opportunities:
    PCOM provides continuing (CE) and continuing medical education (CME) opportunities to assist clinicians fulfill requirements for professional licensure: face-to-face, live online (synchronous) and online recorded (asynchronous) educational opportunities. Depending on the specific program, reduced rates may be available to PCOM affiliates. Many are even free. Details can be found on the Knowledge Direct Course Catalog.   • Monthly THRIVE Professional Development Newsletter:
    We publish a monthly newsletter with teaching tips, resources, and promotions for upcoming professional development opportunities. To receive the monthly newsletter, join the THRIVE mailing list.

  • PCOM Library Resources (Requires formal PCOM faculty appointment):
    PCOM library's online services are extraordinary. You may request access to PCOM online library resources with the ability to search and download research articles, review textbooks and access many other online resources. For access to these available resources, you require a formal PCOM faculty appointment; please contact Nicole Dillard, Provost Office, for information about PCOM faculty appointments. If you already have a formal PCOM faculty appointment, please start the request using the Library Access Request Form.

  • Consultation:
    We collaborate with respective clinical education offices to provide clinical instructors and preceptors with additional training, support and scholarly activities.For additional support or information, please contact any member of our TSPD team of educators.
